Flesh-footed Shearwater, with a world population estimated at several hundred thousand birds, is a common petrel in the waters surrounding North Island, New Zealand.
Some authorities suggest that the race that breeds on New Zealand and Lord Howe Island may be considered a separate species on the basis of different migratory routes and marginal size differences.
